I'm looking for a small - cheap(preferablly free) mac app that would give some simple graphics tools like microsoft paint. Is there anything anyone would suggest?

It's 24 bucks, but I have I use it several times a day, more than off-setting the cost.

Rita is the best Paint alternative for Mac that I've used. It's considered shareware, but it's nag-free. I'm sure if you like it enough you'll buy.

I find Seashore is pretty good. It's based on the Gimp and has layer based editing, magic wand, image resizing. Some of the tools take a bit of getting used to but being able to see the brush shapes is very useful:

I'm not so keen on the magic wand as it's hard to see the selection but overall it's a very good editor.
