Problem with DVD Player

My daughter went to watch a DVD yesterday on here MacBook. Problem is, couldn't find the DVD Player Program. An alias for it was in the dock, but had the dreaded question mark in it. Did a spotlight search for the program, no luck finding it. No problem, I'll just download it then. I download the version 4.6.5 and try to install. The installer won't let me, says there is a newer version of the program already installed. Do another spotlight search...still can't find it. Any ideas to help me?

Try extracting the application from the installation DVD. Use Pacifist to open the .pkg file and search for DVD Player, then install it.
