iLife 08 mov files from iphoto loading to imovie

I just recently upgraded to ilife 08 from 06. In ilife 06, I was able to export a slide show as a .mov and then drop it directly into imovie to edit to make it ipod compatible. I was not able to get the .mov to import into imovie 08 and had to convert it to ipod format through isquint first, is there some step I missed? I would think that iphoto and imovie would be 100% compatible out of the box.
