sony camcorder compatibility?

hello, i am new here so forgive me if this is the wrong area for posting this thread.



I own a Sony HDR CX7 Hi def camcorder (records to memory stick). the format is AVCHD and MPEG-2.



I want to buy a new MacBook pro and wonder if there have been any issues with compatibility, and if so, do people use their sony camcorders in windows mode with bootcamp?

    As I understand it, there had been a compatibility problem with AVCHD in the past (fixable with 3rd party apps), but the new version of iMovie supports it natively, and that would be the version you would get with a new MacBook pro.
