Why is the iPod Touch missing an eyeball?

There are two rows of icons on the iPod Touch, but the top row has 4 and the bottom row has only 3, which looks unbalanced. Shouldn't there be a 4th icon, even for a silly application, just to complete the second row? Without that final 4th icon, it looks like its missing an eyeball.

Sure, more to come, but wouldn't you have thought Ives or someone would have insisted on something, some kind of stop-gap, just for the sake of balance?

What I want to know is, why does it have the square microphone/camera(?) port from the iPhone on the bottom below the display? Future input capability? Too lazy to re-design it?

Yes, Apple should have included "iEye". An app that is a picture of an eyeball, whose function is to balance the look of the iPod Touch home-screen.

Later, they could offer "iEye Pro", which adds such behaviors as blinking, staring, and narrowing (the latter when you try to load Brittany Spears music).

You've seen the iMac right? Balance seems to mean different things to wacky designers. I work beside some and believe me their idea of a balanced layout is not the same as mine. But then mine comes out 'boring' apparently. That's what they say while wearing some comical hat at a jaunty angle or cardigans that are suddenly back in fashion (according to them).

Anyway, this is kind of a trivial layout thing. If they had to stick to even distribution, they'd always have to ship apps in multiples of 4, which is not really practical.

    Sorry, I had to.

Ah, thx. On the iPhone it looks like the microphone pickup, opposite the ear piece. So where is the mic on the iPhone then?

Bottom edge, with the iPod dock connector. There's a mic on one side of the dock and a speaker on the other side.

You have just inspired me to craft a version of Eyecon for Mac OS X.

"Eyecon" is one of those things that is not likely to be recalled by many. One of the earlier useless mac apps, or for that matter useless GUI apps.

Hope you're not a developer. If you release eyecon, you might have all your products ripped from the shelves in Apple Stores...

I have never been as proud to be a member of this forum. Surely, the Eyecon for iEye, as depicted above, is the single greatest achievement in the history of human kind.

uhhh... as depicted above a second ago. Was the awe and majesty too much for a cat?

Well, since I'm not a developer, we don't have to worry.
