Number Porting Question

Bought my iPhone a couple of days ago and am really loving it so far. Enough so that I am seriously contemplating porting my SPCS number over, but I have a dilema. When I activated the phone I signed up for a new number. I didn't want to kill my existing service without knowing if ATT could provide adequate service. Am I out of luck with being able to port my number now?

    Two years ago I ported my home phone to my cell phone. Had I known and done it when ACTIVATING (vs purchasing) the phone with a new service with Cingular, it would have been done without the threat of a fee. Thankfully they never charged me. A few hours w/o service during the changeover and a hassle with my old provider was the only inconvenience.
