I need a good .sit opener/viewer

I have a nearly 600 MB .sit file I need to unstuff and Expander 7.01 isn't doing it. It will make an empty folder and that's it.

Does anyone know of a utility other than Stuffit Expander you can use to view the contents of the .sit file without actually unstuffing it? I need to figure out what I'm dealing with before I start a big downoad again. Thanks. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

    well, i don't know.

btw, you might get more action on this in "Genius Bar".

but here are a few observations:

there is a product called "CanOpener" which lets you extract text files from a a compressed .sit. i don't know what else it does or if that would help you.

there used to be a product called "Stuffit Converter" that converted old .sit files to new updated [version 5.1] files so people could open them.

have you tried stuffit Deluxe ?

    ".sit " , i think, is a Stuffit-created file format.

so they would be the folks to use to expand that particular foramt.

    call Stuffit tech support.

are you sure the file isn't corrupt ?

how about using an older version of stuffit to expand the file?

below is some info on that Stuffit Converter thing. it's not made by Stuffit and i have never used it. so you are on you own with that.

    Description

Stuffit Converter is intended to help those people who have problems with old StuffIt archives when attempting to open them under newer versions of StuffIt. Stuffit Converter simply changes the file type and creator codes to those of a StuffIt 5.1 Document. When double-clicked, they can now be opened with StuffIt 5.x.

Please note that this is not an official Aladdin Systems product.

I downloaded another version of the file last night and was able to get it working. Thanks for the help any way. It seems Stuffit is the only solution for extracting the files.

Fran how did you get 7.01 installed? Installer quits on me because it doesn't see 7.0.
