Offical Countdown to Leopard

Apple has stated that Leopard will be available "October 2007."

With the ample amount of time Apple has taken to develop and test, Leopard, I think it's not too far fetched to expect Leopard might be released towards the beginning of the month (rather than towards the end of October).

For discussion:

1. When will Leopard be released?

2. Will it be available immediately or announced ahead of time for pre-order?

3. Will there be any new "major" features?

4. What is going to be the best / most popular features?

5. When are you going to buy Leopard (onemmediatly, wait till first stability update, wait a few months...)

etc.

commence!

There have been several threads on this...

    1. We don't know.

    2. Look at Amazon.

    3. Search... there are quite a few big ones.

    4. Time Machine? Depends on the user.

    5. ASAP.

Well no one knows when exactly it will be released, but I will say this; If it is going to be released in October at all, an announcement must be very close. Perhaps Apple will use the UK iPhone even on 9/18 to announce a shipping date. I certainly hope this is the case and there are no more delays.

    1. I'm not looking THE answer, I'm looking for speculation! This is not a question with an absolute answer. That is after all the main point of a forum...discussion...

    2. Amazon has a history of putting products up for pre-release right after the product is ANNOUNCED, so Amazon is not an indicator of whether Leopard will be available immediately or for pre-order FROM APPLE when Apple announces the release date.

    3. I meant, will Apple unveil any ADDITIONAL new "major" features (features they haven't announced yet). Personally, I don't think so, but I thought some people might have an idea...

    4. No shit it depends on the user! This is not a question with an absolute answer.

    5.

The latest build released to ADC developers is definitely not ready. I mean, DEFINITELY not ready. The part that runs is blazingly fast, but the part that crashes ... crashes.

Now that said, developers do not have the real "latest build."

Usually ADC will speed up the rate of build releases as they approach Release Candidate. Maybe we'll get a build this coming week. It always helps when they switch over to letting you do an Upgrade Install from a .pkg rather than the method that all early builds use, which is to make you burn a DL-DVD and boot from that. So far we are still burning the DVD.

That reminds me - there have been several threads about how to backup before installing Leopard. I should mention that Leopard's installer lets you back up with Time Machine BEFORE you start the install, so if you have a second volume to back up to, you don't need to have any separate backup strategy just for the install. Of course, you should always have a recent backup anyway, especially as this feature is in a brand-new OS.

I know, I saw that, but that's been available since June.
