Apple to Open R&D Center in NY
Apple may be considering additional expansion in NY (aside from retail).
Maybe it's not such a bad idea, word has it that Apple's watching Google's success finding plenty of talent in the region and may setup camp in NYC to address new product development (such as enterprise software development, among other products).
After all the Universities in the NY area pump out plenty of skilled high-tech grads whom have to leave the region as prior to Google, NY had no high-tech industry. Thus Apple (and Google) would have first dibs on talent, whereas in a region like San Jose, they have to compete with the other high tech companies in the area for employees.
