Here's a snap of the new iPod touch's manual, notice the new shortcut that's not present in the current version of apple.com's iPhone manual. I just know this is going to make someone happy when the next iPhone update comes along to do just this.

No more going to the second (number) screen on the iPhone's keyboard to type that period (full stop). You can now (well soon) do it with a quick double-tap of the space bar. The move also prepares one for the next sentence by adding the space needed after your newly typed period too, nice. Apple, how Blackberry of you . Still, cool! Enjoy you happy campers.

While we're on "tapboard?" shortcuts, it'd be slick if you could eliminate shift+letter by simply holding and sliding. Or is this already an option?

After using the keyboard for about 15 minutes I wondered why one of the Apple coders hadn't added something like it.

Why stop there? Why not add hold_letter+slide_left, slide_right, or slide_down to pick choices associated with the keyboard in alternate modes?
