"phantom" data on external hard drive

I replaced the hard drive in my macbook pro, and im using the old one in an external encasement. When i plug it in it shows up on the desktop and in the finder. When i access it from it says only 5gb's are available, 74gb's of data on it, just like when i swapped it out. I deleted everything i could off of it but it still says 74gb's of space is in use. How can i clear the drive and have access to all of the space?

    dont know how much sense that made, but i figured it out. just used disk utility.
