iTunes MP3 playback handycapped?

I did an experiment, with tracks ripped from a cd at 320K CBR MP3, I did a listening test: in iTunes with all EQ and effects off, nd in Finder: I expected the same exact wuality but to my shock, I got a fuller, wider ranging and sweeter sound out of the Finder, iTunes sounded like FM radio and Finder sounded like a CD: is there any other setup for audio other than eq in itunes or is this just another reason why iTunes is becoming annoying?

Found the issue: apperantly, at some point Apple turned on something called "sound check" for level control: if you use a stereo or a nice set of speakers or studio monitors, I recomend turning this off...made a night-to-day improvment for me.

Yeah, sound check compresses the dynamic range of audio so you don't get any startling jumps from a really soft track to a really loud one.

    It sucks, though.
