Hi everyone,

This is my first post and I've been looking everywhere online and I can't seem to figure out how to solve my problem. I hope someone here reading can help me!

I'm trying to connect my 12" PowerBook G4 computer to my brand new SamSung 46" LCD TV. The main reason I would like to do this is so that I can use my computer as a DVD player and watch movies on my TV. Basically I would like my TV to be a larger display of what my computer is displaying. So far, I have connected my computer to my TV using a mini DV to HDMI cable. My TV recognizes the HDMI signal and I have been able to calibrate the settings for my "Computer to TV" use and was also able to set up my own profile. After all of that, my TV just displays the default blue desktop (the desktop that we see when we first purchase our brand new computer) and I can't do anything. Although, I have the bottom left corner of my computer set to activate my screensaver (expose) so when I put my mouse there, both my computer AND TV display shows my screensaver!! THIS IS WHAT I WANT! But that is all I can do. I tried changing my TV's resolution down from 1080p to 720p and also brought the resolution of my computer up from 1024x768 to 1280x1024. None of this worked so I just put everything back to their default settings. How do I fully set my computer/TV so that everything on my computer is being displayed onto my TV?

Thanks everyone for all your help.

    -hook up the tv

    -in "system preferences", open "diplays"

-set that the external display shows your desktop (and not an extension of it)

System Preferences is correct. There is a setting called "Mirroring" that needs to be turned ON. As peve mentioned, this will cause the TV to display exactly what is on your powerbook screen and not act as a second dsplay (you will notice when set up as a second display that you can drag your mouse/windows/pictures/etc. to the far right (default) of your powerbook monitor and those items will suddenly appear on your TV - again, an extension of your desktop).

I would also recommend turning on the "Show displays in menu bar" option so that you can have quick access to change these features right from the menubar without needing to open/close System Preferences.

Congrats, by the way, on your new TV.
