Looking for a cheap digital tablet

I have been looking into learning and using a digital tablet for drawing, inking and painting artwork and photographs.

Wacom seems the leader of this market and they have a very low priced product called Bamboo Fun (medium size). I'm looking for two things; entry level features and low price. This seems to fit both.

Medium:

11.0" W x 9.3" D x 0.3" H

Medium:

8.5" W x 5.3" D

Pressure Sensitivity \t512 Levels

Resolution \t2,540 Lines Per Inch

ExpressKeys \t4

Finger-Sensitive Input \tTouch Ring

Color \tAvailable in Black,

Silver, White and Blue

Warranty \t1 Year

Each Bamboo Fun package includes:

1. Bamboo Fun pen tablet

2. Bamboo Fun mouse

3. Bamboo Fun pen

4. Pen stand

5. USB cable

6. Quick start guide

7. Installation CD (includes tablet driver and electronic user manual)

8. Software DVD that includes: Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0 Win/4.0 Mac, Corel Painter Essentials 3.0, and Nik Color Efex Pro 2.0 GE

9. Package of 3 replacement pen nibs

Has anyone used this tablet and does anyone recommend another product as far as price and features?

One feature I noticed that Bamboo doesn't have compared to their more expensive counterpart is "pen tilt", what does this mean? Would I be restricted to holding the pen upright and not on an angle?

Also, as an inker with brush, pen and paper, I tended to rotate the paper to ink at certain angles with the brush. Would this feature be available with this tablet and with let's say Photoshop?

I'll probably have more questions, but any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I just bought a Bamboo last week and love it. I am doing sketches in various apps and it works fine; I am a novice artist and am using it to improve. The included mouse doesn't glide as well as I wish (but I like effortless gliding), but I have another mouse anyways.

The pen works fine holding it normally (with a tilt). I think the tilt idea is actually a measurement of the angle of tilt and how that could be used to interface.

The Bamboo rocks and won't bust a budget like some of the pricier Wacoms.

Thanks Bergermeister, I may have made my choice. My eMac keyboard has a USB port and since it's friendly with my portable USB Flash drive, it should accept the Wacom Bamboo tablet (I hope, but no problem, I have a spare USB port on the side of the eMAc).

I want to get back to drawing and inking without the cost, mess and materials. Plus the fact being my apartment's too small for a drawing table.
