No ethernet connection with cable modem

Hello everyone,

Maybe someone can help me with this. I recently signed up for Comcast high speed internet. The tech came out and installed it to the old PC at the house (I wasn't home). I figured it would be easy to switch it over to my Mac (MacBook w/ Tiger) but after following the instructions on Comcast's FAQs, I still have no internet on the Mac, and the VFN icon has appeared in the top toolbar. It's a Motorola Surfboard modem.

Thanks in advance.

Open "System Prefs" and tell us what is shown in the Ethernet -> TCP/IP panel. Is there anything under DNS?

Many times you have to reset the cable modem. That way it will see the new unit connected to it. Usually the best thing to do is put a router, switch as the first unit after the the cable modem. Then you can connect and disconnect units without having to reset the modem.
