If you're as fond of the new 3D Dock as I am, this link will be of interest to you:

Why Apple ever thought that that reflective 3D debacle was the way to go, is beyond me.

As this little AppleScript proves, somebody at Apple knows how to design a UI, but it would appear as though it is somebody else that has the final say on what ships. It's so often the case, eh?

This has been known and no it has nothing to do with one person being overruled.

The dwrite (defaults write) system comes from NeXTSTEP and it is a way to customize one's system.

I think the new dock is awesome, I heard so many bad things about it I was expecting the worst. I only made it wooden for fun, not cause it was ugly, it was actually quite pretty.

    Here's how to do it

P.S. if you are having issues getting this to work (back up the 4 old files first) make sure to delete the old 4 files from their current location before dragging in the new four. I personally kept the old 4 in a folder which I named Leopard dock in my documents folder for safe keeping.

I like the dock. It makes it seem more 2007 not 1987.

I like it and I'm keeping it, at least for now. I customize when there is a functional or aesthetic benefit for doing it, and I don't have any issues with the new dock what-so-ever. Some things just grow on you I guess?

    LOL

Upgraded to Leopard yesterday. The 3D dock doesn't bother me at all. There are some areas that certainly need future 10.5.x polishing but the Dock isn't something that I'm having issues with. I've turned of magnification because I don't like how the grid/fan shifts with magnification on.

Looking Glass written in Java isn't going to compete against Quartz GL of Core Imaging and like NeWS will be competing not against Apple but Linux's Compiz project.

Perhaps Sun will add Looking Glass code to the OpenJDK project and only then will you see it prosper.
