Couple new laptop questions

I just bought a 15" MacBook Pro and love it. My wife and I just had our first baby this past week and I used it to do a blog and publish a photo gallery to keep relatives up to date with our new arrival. What a great machine.

I have a couple questions about things I've noticed while using it. The first time I put the machine to sleep by simply shutting it, I picked it up fairly quickly after. When I did, I noticed the apple on the top flash bright for a split second and then I could see that the screen lit up shortly. I decided to open it back up to see if it was ok. It wouldn't start back up, just a black screen and a solid "sleep light" on the front. I then read that you need to let the hard drive stop spinning before moving the laptop. I've asked everyone I know that owns an Apple laptop and they all say they have never had a problem with putting it to sleep and then immediately picking it up. Was this a fluke or do I need to wait each time before picking it up? (I do now!)

Second question: Whenever I try to type something while flipping between applications, I have to wait about 10-15 seconds before the keys will work. This includes arrow keys, volume control, numbers, everything basically. Anyone have this happen? It's not like the computer is runnng slow, it's more like there is a hold on the keyboard.

Thanks

Your first issue might be normal but the second sounds really weird - I've never heard of that and it shouldn't be that way.

    Congrats on the kid.

I'd go ahead and give apple support a call. Just to be safe.

    Thanks guys.

He's pretty cute if I do say. A lot of work, but worth it all!

I went ahead and called Apple. He just had me pull the battery out, hold down the power button for ten seconds and fire it up again. Problem fixed!
