internal hd still making itself invisible!

this is an extremely irritating problem which i had on my macbook on tiger and is still persisting on my new imac under leopard! basically the internal hard drive suddenly decides to set itself as "invisible" and i am forced to use some kind of method to reverse this. under tiger i was using either file buddy or pathfinder to uncheck the drive's invisible setting but it now seems neither of these methods work under leopard. i have also tried the developer tools setfile approach but this appears to be erroring



could anyone shed any light on this situation and perhaps how to fix it temporarily or permanently under leopard? i figure that one of my applications must be setting the invisibility but i haven't been able to isolate which
