1...When repairing disk permissions with the disk utility, should it be done with the original OS dvd (restart and run from the dvd) or is it OK to do it from the installed OS on the computer?

2...Is it OK to select the "volume" to repair disk permissions or does it have to the "disk" icon?

1... it is ok. You can repair permissions from the current startup volume. If you want to do any DISK repair, then you can't do that from the start-up volume, you'd need to start from a different HD or a DVD.

2... either one. really makes no difference unless you have partitioned your disk into multiple volumes.
