some avi files arent playing sound?

Some .avi files that I have are having some problems. When I try to open the files first (with quicktime), it says "some other components may be needed to play this media", and then it takes me to the general quicktime components page that seems to be pretty unorganized.

Some of my .avi files play sound and some dont. Is there any way I can fix this issue? I know that these files should be playing sound.

Also, I would rather stick to using quicktime than another player.

Thanks in advance

-Dylan

Installing Perian would be your best bet.

Yeah what yama said. I am guessing the audio is AC-3, one of many audio codecs supported by Perian.

Possibly DTS then. Open the movie in QuickTime and choose movie properties from Window menu. It will tell you the audio codec needed.
