Can an NAS Drive be used as a Server?

I just ordered an NAS enclosure (see link below) mainly to be used for our iTunes library and other sharing on our LAN at home. But then I was wondering if it could be used as a server for my web site. If it had an OS and server software onboard could this be done?

Some will be running Linux and you can possibly hack in and get access to a shell. Then you can do almost anything you need to. Whether you can with this model you'll have to research.

Also the CPUs tend to be rather wimpy since all they are intended to do is host a samba share and a baby web server for controlling the NAS.

You can with Lacie's one, you just forward the router port 80 to your network drive. I don't know if it supports PHP, SQL etc. but basic websites are fine.
