CD/dvd player

I need some help. My CD/dvd play on the i-Mac is no long assessible. Basically, the numeric pad side of the key board is completely dead. Re-start showed error message of initiation errod of "-1700". Any idea how could I fix it? Thanks for all the help in advance.

    What kind of imac?

    Does the keyboard work in any other computer?

    700 MHz power PC G4 with OS X 10.4.10. I can use the main key board, but loss the function of numeric part. Not allow me to do the num-lock even. Thanks for all your help.
