applications folder permissions

hey all,

recently did a fresh install when i updated to leopard but have been having some problems related to the applications folder. long story short, the folder and most of its contents are set to the root user, group admin. this is fine, but the problem is my personal user name is read-only and i am forced to enter an admin password every time i modify the applications folder contents \

what is the best solution to this? i'm assuming this isn't really the ideal behavior? my username is set as "allow to administer this computer" but appears not to be a member of the admin group. surely this would be the quick and dirty way of solving this problem?

many thanks!

    Open the terminal and type:

    sudo chmod g+w /Applications

This gives your group write permissions.

If the group already has write permissions and you want to add write to just your account, you'd use:

    sudo chmod o+w /Applications
