hard drive usage

i am using leopard on 24 inch white imac. besides the cache filling up from safari etc, it seems that hard drive space gets used up as time goes on. sometimes after not being used some of the space comes back and after rebooting more space is initially available. is this some temporary cache or something? where is this located? what else is taking this disk space? thanks.

    run your daily / weekly and monthly cron jobs for clean up. those should run automatically if your system is left running all the while, but you can also use utilities like macjanitor to run them manually.
