mrpiddly is correct. AFAIK you can use any windows boot-able card in windows, but you'll be out of luck trying to get it running using Mac OS. I have not tested every card, but I have not read of any Windows compatible card that has not yet booted in windows.
I'm pretty sure you can, but don't my word for as I said earlier. Go find some better information. AFAIK all cards are compatible with the compatible OS.

#1 you have to install bootcamp, and #2 it will only work in Vista. It wont do crap in Mac OS. Not even give your screen visuals of any kind.
Does the Mac Pro have enough slots to put, say an Nvidia 8800 GTX or something of that sort, and have 1 more slot available for the standard 7300 GT, so you could use the 8800 in XP/Vista, and the 7300GT in OSX? Is that possible, I just though of that and wondered...
i don't understand why nvidia just doesn't make some drivers for it and a way to upload them into the EFI
If your saying what I think your saying there are EFI cards, and BIOS cards. You need more EFI cards.

If you really want to say something about it tell Apple to write more drivers. But then again you need Apple to release more EFI cards to actually get anything done.
I dont know what this other person thinks they know but using the NVidia Quadro FX5600 in the Mac Pro is one the best things I have ever done for myself, coupled with xp x64 edition and 3ds max 64 bit edition it is incredible the interface is the same only thing you have to do is get a splitter cause you need several 4 pin power connectors to run it at full speed. Best video card out there and have been using since it came out
It boots into Mac just fine I have had no problems on either side
I would not believe a word of that without proof.
I am almost positive there is no way to boot a BIOS card in OS X. I think your lying Mr. two posts trying to get someone to make a sizable investment in a video card that does not work.

Now, I've not tried this on an Intel machine, but on my old PowerMac G4, I was able to steal an AGP graphics card from my friend's dead PC, and after installing it, the G4 began to boot, even showing the Apple splash screen, but would then get video artifacts and finally suffer a kernel panic. Removing the card restored the machine to working order. Now, the card was pretty abused (the heatsink was attached with hot glue), so it's possible it would have worked better with a mint card.

Thats funny youre right, since i am a small developer in Portland I really have a huge incentive to sell someone an Nvidia card I am also selling windows xp 64 bit which in your opinion probably does not work, but anyhow ill post my hardware config. this is straight from dxdiag jerk.

You can only use the Apple Nvidia 8300, ATI X1900, or Nvidia Quadro 4500.
You can only use the 3 graphics cards that apple sells in the mac pro. It's a diffrent type of connection- EFI vs BIOS.

unless you boot into windows.

Would it be possible for Apple to use EFI's BIOS legacy support to enable more graphics card on the Mac side? Just wondering.
Beats me, but if Apple just supported both we would have an extremely large amount of video cards to play with.
