Green Eggs and Spam?
The amount of on the forums recently has been out of control.
Possible remedies:
Possible remedies:
- Spam Filter – posts caught by the same filter are unpublished until they can be reviewed by an admin
- CAPTCHA – Implement a CAPTCHA upon registration. When I implemented CAPTCHA for anonymous commenting and registration on the website site I admin, the amount of spam I received was cut from an average of 70 spams per day to zero spams since the installation of the CAPTCHA. One excellent, solution for CAPTCHA is reCAPTCHA.
- Graduated Posting – Since SPAM on forums could also just as easily be posted by a human manually than a spambot, implementing graduated posting would prevent human spam. For a user's first 10 (or some such number) posts, their comments have to be moderated before they are published.

You could feed entire third-world countries with that much Spam.
This is unacceptable. DO something about this.
This could work in conjunction with graduated posting to ensure the admins don't have to read through as much spam.
A simple speed limit would probably help too. The spammers seem to turn up, post a bunch of crap at once and disappear. What if it took a hour before they could post again after first post? Two hours? A day? The speed limit could last, say, until they have made five posts or been members for a week. Newbs do well to read more than they post, anyway.

I do agree that something needs to be done, but your idea would be very annoying and would frustrate a lot of people. It's just not worth it.
* no more than 5 posts per hour
* first 10 posts moderated
* first 10 posts with captchas
* etc...
All this is not supported by standard vBulletin though \
