HTML vs. XHTML

Are there any major benefits to using XHTML to develop websites instead of HTML? I get the feeling XHTML is "the future" of web development, and if so, I will use WebDesign, but if there is no real benefit then I will go with Coda.

html -> xhtml is a REALLY easy transition, and as noted, it is the future (and present really) of the web. HTML is kinda fugly and inconsistent, too.

I've never used Coda, and never will, but I find it hard to believe it doesn't support xhtml. If it doesn't, drop it like a leperous limb.

    Coda supports XHTML.

But the difference between XHTML and HTML is like the difference between Vanilla Ice Cream and Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream: unless you're an Ice Cream critic, the difference doesn't really matter.
