ok, i know it was beaten to death in the old forums, but i have a slightly different question. i have my 867 running 10.1.2 with a dsl connection and want to share the bandwidth w/ my roommates gateway. the question i have is, how do i set his pc to see mine as the router? he is running windowsME. i tried setting it up in the network preferences, but i think what was holding me up was the dns tab. i entered the ips, but i have no idea what to enter for the host and domain. can anyone help me on this?

I used to use my G4/500 MP (in OS 9) to do that with my home network. I found that it was a major pain in the ass to keep the app running at all times, and it slowed my machine down significantly. Plus, to do it right you need to get a 2nd ethernet card.

A far better option IMO, is to get a real router. They're pretty cheap right now and they do a WAY better job than the software ones. I got my Linksys router w/ 4 port 10/100 switch and wireless access point for $200 a year ago. Best piece of equipment I ever bought that didn't go into my computer.

Just take a look at some routers and you should be able to get a minimalist one for pretty cheap. Get your roommate to buy it or something.

using gNAT in osx, it allows you to use 1 ethernet card for incomming and outgoing data. i just need to know how to set up the network information in windows ME. as often as the two of us will be online simultaneously, im not too afraid of slowing my machine down.

btw, as odd as it sounds, windows xp has a much simpler tcp/ip setup than ME does
