is there an OSX for dummies type page....moving from 9.1 iMac DV to new iMac

ok, getting new iMac...hoping to keep that basically a OS X machine only....but don't really know anything about X...is there a basic OS X page for me to read?? how hard is it to use older apps in OS X....i use Quark alot....hoping not to have to up-grade everything (maybe just office---dang, liked office 2001...i'm sure i like office X too, but is apple going to become like pc's, where we update every few months??)...



just hoping to hear that moving to X is easy...g



might keep my old iMac a os 9.1 machine for a few months before changing it over ot X...is an iMac G3 400Mhz DV machine with 384 of ram ok for X??

I think the trasition to X is pretty easy. It would mainly depend on your apps. I don't know a web page to lead you to, but David Pogue has put out a "Missing Manual" book for OS X, if you don't mind spendng a few clams.



This series has been helpful to me before.

Moving to OS X shouldn't be too difficult. Using older apps through Classic is a breeze.

Why not get the "OS X For Dummies" book? I got it for my Dad, he's a newbie so the language is easier to follow.

Your old iMac will be fine. I have the same thing, but with 128MB, and it works great.

Really? Works great with 128MB? I would never have thought that was possible.

I wouldn't say it works great. My wife has the ruby iMac DV 400 with 196ram and it's pretty slow with X.

That's what I expected. When I ran OS X on my Rev C iMac with 160MB RAM it was slow, but I think the main reason was before 10.1 was released. I thought it could've gotten alot better even with not a lot of memory.

I've been very impressive with both the amount and the quality of books published on OS X over the last year. I was in barnes & Nobles a few weeks ago and it was very cool to see a growing mac section instead of the shrinking aging one.
