Need to buy Sony (have discount available) camcorder which will work with new iMac 24 intel. My interest is primarily to take videos of someone who is harassing me. Therefore, I do not need HD but something made by Sony that will work with Mac and hopefully iMovie

don't get a dvd format camera, you can't import without pain the dvd format which is not editable, get a dv TAPE...search AI there is another thread some time ago about this subject don't do as i did i got a dvd thinking it was "simpler" but can't use imovie with it. use my canon camera for video snipets i can import to idvd in a snap. sony makes some hidef widescreen tape based units that are great and not that expensive. as far as the harddrive style can't talk to that, just make sure it can import to imovie, idvd

Or AVHD, that will work just fine too, exept it's expensive.

Your choises though are just limited to MiniDV and AVHD. I's suggest theDCR-HC28 MiniDV Handycam® (it has evreything you need, and is the cheepest they sell.

With the HC28, can you place the movie on hold and then print a picture???

Avoid the mini-DVD format at all costs. Mini-DV tapes are your best bet, but a hard drive-based camera should work too, as long as it's equipped with a FireWire port. USB-based cameras won't do the trick.
