High pitched noise from iMac

When I sit here and studying for finals, talking to people on AIM and yahoo, after a while i hear this extremely high pitched whine come from the iMac's speakers. It's happened more than once and to fix it all I have to do is raise or lower the volume.

Anyone else experience this?

Usually I just have chat noises going. No music. Then I hear a high pitched whine.

Hmm...

This is the mid 2007 Alum iMac. 2.4Ghz 1Gb RAM (updated to 3GB kensington)

Bought it after Leopard came out.

Call Apple, ask for a new machine. That worked for me with one dead pixel. And best of all - you can use your other machine in the mean time, and then restore using Time Machine. I was down for less than 2 hours.

It means your iMac is pining for the fjords.

could it possibly be from your cellphone syncing up to your service while close to your speakers?

The noise isn't exactly what I'd call high-pitched, but maybe someone would call it that.
