Sharing Macs on a network

My son has a MacBook Pro and I just received my MacBook. Under "SHARED" on his machine mine is listed (after I allowed file sharing) and he can access all my files. Under "SHARED" on my machine is listed his machine (he also has allowed file sharing) but when I click on it, it just says "connecting" and eventually, after several minutes it says "connection failed". When I click on "Connect As" it starts connecting again. I wanted to see if I was connecting as a guest and not as me. Can someone help?

I have experienced this. Are you both using the same .Mac account? I think it's a glitch. Unless you really need to share files frequently, I would turn off Sharing in System Preferences.

It's probably a router problem. Also, it could be firewalls.

hmm, i'd say, set up an account on your sons computer so you can connect to it.
