Macs have historically been very picky about the media used for DVDs/CDs. In particular, +R (-R is much more common in the Mac world) has been an issue, and the same format from different vendors didn't always work. This is old news, however, so the recency of your Mac is relevant.
Does your Mac support +R disks (check System Profiler/Disk Burning)? If it does, your Mac may simply not like this particular media. I'm assuming your Mac's DVD player works fine with other disks?
If the answer to both above questions is yes, there's probably nothing wrong with your Mac. It simply doesn't like the disk you're trying to use.
