iTunes does not connecting at all

in iPod + iTunes + AppleTV edited January 2014
I just purchased my iMac. I managed to enter iTunes one or two times and that was all. Since then I cannot get connected to the iTunes store. The connecting bar never completes. For the time I connect to the internet through a Win XP laptop (ethernet connection) where the modem is installed. Any help ?
