Final Draft has released version 6, and it's OS X compatible. I can finally check another app off the list I'm patiently waiting for.

Since when are you writing scripts, Belle?

I have since school, but recently I've been able to find more time to work on them. I've also written two novels, though they're hidden away in a box under my bed and will never be published.

    Hey good news indeed.

Now I'm off to find out whether it is a free upgrade...somehow I doubt it.

Not free, but it is a 1.0 update, and if you order before the start of February, it's only $49. Not too painful.

I'm curious to know, is Final Draft just a Microsoft Word-like application that comes with templates, formulas and examples of screenplays, novels etc.? Or does it do something I'm missing? I've been doing all my writing in MS Word and if Final Draft does make writing novels/screenplays easier I'm all for it! Comments would be appreciated.

Final Draft is the best screenwriting tool out there IMO.

It is only a word processor, in that it won't make tiffs into jpgs or edit video or stuff like that. However, it is made specifically for doing things that a(n) (aspiring) screenwriter would want to do such as automatically bolding character names, numbering scenes, adding "cont'd" to page ends, parentheticals and so forth. You get the idea.

Check out their site <a href="http://www.finaldraft.com/"; target="_blank">http://www.finaldraft.com/</a>; you'll recognize the names on the testimonials.

It is easily worth the money, even if screenwriting is just a hobby/aspiration.

Or even better, download the <a href="http://www.finaldraft.com/downloads/demos.html"; target="_blank">demo</a> of version 5. It's not OS X compatible, but it runs fine in Classic.
