iMac users against multiple cables from case

An Apple tech where I work has been putting together one adapter to plug into all the cable ports on the back of the iMac case. One 2 ½ foot cable (more like a ribbon) extends from the adaptor to a hub that can be attached to a desk or left hanging. USB, FW, audio, DVI, etc. cables will plug into the hub instead of the iMac back ? no spaghetti draped over the desk. I don?t know how far along she is, but if she does pull it off, I?d like one if I get an iMac. I told her she should patent and sell it. Since she doesn?t know if many people would want one, she?s not hot on making more than just a few for friends.

I wonder how many AI users of iMacs would be interested. I?m not going to set up a poll. I?d just like some feedback. If this belongs in another thread, I apologize.

How many cables come out of an iMac? I didn't realize there were any?

This thread is a bit out of place IMO. This is more a general discussion.

In addition to the main (power/DVI) cable, there are 9 ports - audio input, audio output, 3 USB ports, FW400 port, FW 800 port, Gigabit ethernet port, and a mini-DVI connector. My tech friend has been using 7 ports and the main cable - 8 cables in all - and she says it makes the back of her desk messy. With the gadget she's making, all you'll see is the main cable and the hub cable. The hub will be fastened to the side of the desk.

She had intended to fasten the hub under the desk, but then the ports would have been hard to reach.

You're right. I should have put this in General Discussion. I would have but I didn't know how to erase this one.
