Itunes problem or DVD drive problem?

I'm having a problem with my new 24" aluminum 2.4 imac. When I import cd's the cd loads for a split second on itunes and then dissapears. at first it was just annoying every 10 or 20 cd's or so, but lateley its about 50% of the time. I have a large cd collection that i'm finally converting to apple lossless and I'm almost to the end of it. I started about a month ago and I'm at about 400 cd's that I've ripped. I have about 100 left, but I cant believe that I wore out the drive, especially since the cd loads for a split second before it disappears from the desktop. I just push the eject button and re-insert it, but like i said, it's happening more frequently.... Anyone else know about any problems like this?
