Preferences Lost... now iTunes
I know this should really be in Genius Bar, but more people come here . I got a kernal panic before and when I restarted and lauched IE all my preferences and cookies were gone. Favs were still there though. Is something wrong with the HD? Or is it OS X? Anyone got any ideas?

It doesn't surprise me, though, that open files (namely the IE prefs) may have been lost during a crash. That's a pretty common occurance for any kind of crash.

Alright. I just never have lost anything in a crash before, so it was a little weird.

<strong>Any idea what caused the panic?
</strong><hr></blockquote>
No idea at all. It happened when I clicked Sign On for AOL.
Losing your iTunes library shouldn't really be such a big deal. Can't you just drag your MP3 files back into iTunes to re-add them to the library? Like the IE Prefs, it iTunes was open when your computer crashed, any files it had open could have been damaged. Yet another reason Apple should move to a journaling file system...
<strong>I'll ask again: did you fsck your disc the last time you restarted?
</strong><hr></blockquote>
Yes.
No, I can't just drag my MP3s back in there because after I get the error message iTunes quits.
I assume you've tried trashing the old "~/Documents/iTunes/iTunes Music Library (2)" file, correct?
And you wrote down and reported the k-panic's to Apple too, right? Btw, do you remember if the panics were related? Do you recall exactly what was going on during both of them? The panics I have had before were all supposedly hardware related (memory problems, FireWire).
<strong>Hrrmm. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" /> That is odd indeed.

I didn't think of trashing that file. I just did and now I have half of my library, eventually I'll just re-add everything.
The first panic was when I was quitting IE and the second one was when I opened up Toast while listening to an MP3.
