Can Time Machine be used to backup to a disk connected to an Airport Extreme base station?

I want to try this but don't have an extra drive right now to do it.

PS: I thought the Time Capsule was a joke when this probably will do the job.

Thanks, This utility is cool. I am backing up over wireless on TM to my NAS now. Very nice. I will still get the TC though. Needed the Gigabit switch and 802.11n . Its disk will be secondary backup for photos and videos (family albums).

When you consider the price of an AirPort Extreme and either a 500GB or 1TB external drive, the price of the Time Capsule isn't too unreasonable. Not to mention, I'm not certain that iTimeMachine will work for wirelessly restoring a Mac from a Time Machine backup.
