Okay so it just hit me, the AppleTV software cannot play video_ts files BUT....can I say, plug the AppleTV into my Mac, reformat the internal hard drive, install Mac OS 10.5 on it and then install the appropriate software (in this case Matinee) and then be able to hook up the AppleTV to my TV via the video jacks on the AppleTV?

The question is... will a "normal" OSX installation even recognize the AppleTV hardware?... and if it does, will the drivers in the "normal" OSX installation even be able to use the HDMI or Component outputs?

If these (or other) problems exist, how would you get the standard AppleTV version of OSX back on there?
