If it doesn't that is a damn shame, and is just plain wrong on Apple's part. There is no reason why a simple USB enclosure with a Super Drive in it, (which is all this device is) should not work in any Mac that has a USB port.
There also seems to be no apparent reason to limit this to only MBAs as well. I have an external DVD-DL burner in a LaCie case and my computers required no extra drivers in order for it to be recognized in iTunes, iDVD, etc. I imagine Apple's drive will work the same way.
