My big complaint with X

Why does OSX give you so few otopns as to where to save something? I should be able to save a document to anywhere I want. Why can't there just be nice, normal save dialouges in OSX that allow me to save into anyfolder on my computer? I really like OS X, but this shortcoming is really starting to frustrate me. Is there some way to change this that I haven't found? Please let me know if there is.

When you get the save dialogue, you will probably see something like this:

    Save as: [blahblah.extension]

    Where: [dropdown-list] [arrow]

    [cancel] [save]

click on the arrow and you should get a file browser.

Click on the button with the triangle.

You can also resize the O/S panel from the bottom right corner and the app will remember whatever you set it to.

If you can see the folder you want to save to drag it onto the save (or open) dialog and the dialog will be directed to that place.
