Login Panel Question
Hey everyone,
I use a PowerBook as my only computer running X 10.1.2 and I would like to bring back a feature OS 9 had in its login panel. What I specifically want to do is edit the panel to have a block of text in it to say this is my computer and to put my contact information in case the computer is found (I know, I know, chances are it'll be off to a pawn shop faster than you can say 'crack pipe' but I still believe in the basic goodness of people. Blah blah). So, does anyone know how I can do this? Below are a few things I've tried that didn't work out for me:
? That System Preferences pane: Visage, it didn't seem to do the trick.
? Chanigng the computers name (I'd rather not do that since the name of the computer has to be what it is already set to)
So, if anyone can suggest some ideas I surely would appreciate it! Thanks in advance to all who reply.

Cool.
<strong>You could edit the nibs in here and add a custom string... I think.

Edit the nibs? Excuse my lack of knowledge of all things in the OS X system folder, but what do you mean?
<strong>Also, have a look at these:

Hey cool, I can just re-create the login panel with all the info I need! Now, do you know where I can find a copy of the original one (since all I want to do is add some text in there)?
/System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/
But you will need some basic "developer" know-how as well as the Develop Tools installed to edit the nib files in Interface Builder.
<strong>Original one? I already posted the path:

Ahh, unfortunately I don't have either of those things. So I guess I'll try the Photoshop route and see if I can re-create the login panel. Thanks for the info though! I've passed the info you gave me on to a more developer-ish friend to see if he can figure it out.
