installing OSX problem ... help please

I have a PowerBook G4 and i have OS.X verison 10.3.9

Lately it has been acting up and going all crazy like not wanting to update software when i try or i can't even use mozilla or internet explorer. i can only use safari. So i decided i should just clean my hard drive completly and install a new os x, but here is where the problem is. my cd/dvd drive unfortently does not work so there is no way i can install a new os x. i need help big time. Is there any other way i can work this problem out?

    boot the machine in firewire disk mode (read up on apple's website on how to do that), connect it to another macintosh and install os x on this "Disk" using the other macintosh.
