Amazon buys Audible
NY Times is reporting that Amazon will be purchasing Audible. Looks like Amazon is not is not just sitting on its 4th quarter revenue (up 43%). I guess the next question is whether or not Amazon will pull Audible from iTunes. Or is this an effort to add to Amazon's online music offerings, a lineup that will directly compete with iTunes? Personally, I see this as a good thing. Amazon is a legitimate alternative to iTunes, and one that I am using more and more. I am hopeful that Amazon can offer audible content for a price that undercuts iTunes. Also, I hope that Amazon can extend the DRM free philosophy to audiobooks.
