What's Wrong W/ My Ipod

I have a 30g Video Ipod. Whenever I plug it in it just says 'very low battery' and gets extremely hot. It doesn't move from that screen. I don't think that it is under warranty anymore, so I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to fix it myself.

    needs a battery. If you haven't messed with ipods before then I would send it in and get it replaced. Apple has a propgram I think for $49.
