DVD backup programs....

I just purchased a 24"iMac, and would like to change the way things are in my home.

I have a large library that I would like to backup on my iMac, or a external harddrive, as my children are having fun with the dvds, using them as frisbees etc etc.

I would LIKE to be able to backup the dvds, and use them for viewing on either the iMac itself, or transfer to my ipod/iphone, and then lastly, be able to burn back onto another dvd.

So.... is there a program out there that would allow me to do that, keeping in mind that these are store bought dvds, probably have copy protection, and I am an absolute luddite when it comes to things like this?

A simple program where I press "GO" and it does?

Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

"Mac the ripper" will strip the copy protection and leave you with a 4GB file that can be burned to a DVD as a backup. "Handbrake" will take a DVD file and transcode it to mp4 (or other format) that takes up less space depending on how much you wish to compress it.

You need to own the DVD of course for these to be legal.

Even then, it's technically illegal, but I don't think you'll find anyone here that thinks personal DVD backup is wrong.
