I've recently made the jump from a pc to mac and i'm having some issues with my itunes. I have about 150 gigs of music, video, and podcasts stored on an external hard drive. I have been able to import my library and all my playlists, but for some reason I can't edit any of my music. I can open my info, just not edit any of the fields. Something similar is happening to my podcasts as well, for some reason they won't update. If i try to manually update them it tells me I can't. Is there some kind of administrator rights I have to assign my new computer? Any help would be great...

What filesystem is the external drive formatted with?

If it's NTFS, you won't be able to write to the drive.

The Mac and Windows libraries are not compatible, the formatting is different.

You will want to "consolidate" your library: moves all the files to the iTunes Library folder.
