MBA keyboard question

I am having a recurrent issue with my MBA -- somehow my cursor keeps moving around, probably because the base of my hand or thumb contacts the quite large sensor. I'm trying to consciously avoid touching the sensor, but it has been difficult and quite annoying to find myself suddenly typing in the middle of a sentence two lines back. Any suggestions?

This is a shareware app that allows use of special function buttons on PC mice, adjust sensitivity & track speed as well. I think it works on trackpads, email the dev to see for sure. Free trial download, $20 to buy via paypal.
