using letter keys (like "D") in file save dialogs (Mac OS 10.5)

Hi.

More often than not I encountered a rather unnerving behaviour in OS X since upgrading to Leopard.

Whenever I wanted to close a document/file in Tiger, and didn't want to save the changes or the file itself, I used to just press the key "D" for "don't save" (after CMD+W). And that was that.

But in Leopard I can't get it done this way. Is there any setting for this?

I tried Universal Access in the System Preferences, nothing. Keyboard & Mouse gives me "Full Keyboard Access" on "all controls". I checked that, but nothing.

So where is it then? Am I too stupid to find it, or was it just programmed away for no better reason than "it was useful, let's take it away"? I hope it's the first.

Thanks in advance.

    Ahh, that was simple.

Thanks. I don't even need to lift the thumb from the CMD key.

    But why?

Both 'D' and 'Cmd-D' (or whatever letter required) used to work, depending on which app you were in. Carbon and Cocoa handled things differently. Apple is trying to standardize these odd corners of the UI, and they've settled on 'Cmd-' as the proper form, so you'll see it pop up more in your apps.

    Thanks to both of you.

Today I finally (consciously) realized that I can use both.

TextEdit needs Cmd+D, and Word only the D.

Let me see how the others do, and program it into my user habits.
